# Welcome to Prodigy Mathematics

Prodigy Mathematics is a series in the Martian Mathematics family that bridges the gap between primary school arithmetic and secondary school mathematics like geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. Unlike the Martian Mathematics series, Prodigy Mathematics is primarily a self study program.

Prodigy mathematics covers a variety of topics--both standard topics and special topics going beyond the ordinary math curriculum--in self-contained units each providing material for several weeks of study. The program is designed to be comprehensive, but individual units can also be used as stand-alone supplements to a separate mathematics curriculum.

Prodigy Mathematics Student Workbook Level 1, Chapters 1-7

Each student workbook is broken up into seven or eight chaptersâ€”one for each week in a half semester. The lessons within each chapter are conveniently broken up into days 1-5. The lessons in each chapter include explanations and illustrations of mathematical concepts interspersed with exercises to promote active learning. Each chapter also features a study guide that reiterates important concepts in a memorable graphic. The study guides are followed by a quiz for testing and evaluation. Finally, each chapter ends with a research project. Usually this involves reading about historical figures that contributed to the material in the chapter, or offers suggestions for further study of the material.

Prodigy Mathematics Teacher's Guide Level 1, Chapters 1-7

The teacher's guide contains the same text as the student workbook with two exceptions: Sometimes additional text, highlighted in red, is provided that gives insights and tips for teaching the material. The answers to all of the exercises and quizzes are provided inline with the text. See Anatomy of a Lesson for more detail.

Some chapters include Jupyter notebook work. A Jupyter notebook is a document that can contain text and pictures, but also Python computer code. Computer programming in Python is a powerful tool to enhance a student's mathematical understanding. Your student will need a Google account to work with Jupyter notebooks.

**About our Founder**

Dr. David Ward is the father of six children and founder of Martian Mathematics. He earned a B.S. in Physics with a minor in Mathematics from the College of Charleston, and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from MIT where he cofounded the field of polaritonics. He also did a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University in Biophysics. He was the founder and president of Piffany Inc., an MIT $100K finalist.
